In some cases, militants enter the country through legal crossing points such as Torkham, 35 miles east of Jalalabad. • U.S. using Asean to weaken China

Washington is using the Asean region for a bigger military purpose and this strategy is becoming clear to observers due to the U.S. push for greater influence in Asia. America's growing 'police' role in SEA

PDF Print E-mail

This 'global police' role by the U.S. has now increased significantly and despite hopes of changes by the Barack Obama administration, there is no sign that the U.S. will stop playing the 'cop' of Asia. Human Rights, Malacca Straits and terrorism are the favorite subjects brandished by the U.S. with a whip in hand against the region and Malaysia in particular.

The recent months of activity by the Americans in the region was marked by strong words and warnings to the states in the region that the U.S. will not tolerate rights abuses or will crack against the rise in terror in Indonesia or other states.

"According to the U.S Energy Information Administration (EIA), about 11 million barrels per day (b/d) currently passes  through the Straits of Malacca, but that is set to climb as oil consumption in developing Asian nations rises by an  estimated average of 3 per cent per annum.  Thus the Straits of Malacca remain one of the most important shipping  lanes in the world and that importance is expected to increase – specially in terms of oil transport." wrote C.S.Kuppuswamy in an analysis for the South Asia Analysis Group.

Putting forward arguments about the 'interest of the International' community, the U.S. is moving strongly into the region in a bid to 'secure' the economic and military routes. These are intentions that Wfol.tv has already decried as early as 2006 and the recent events in this part of the world reinforces the arguments that we had set forward at that time. That is the U.S. will use the rising war on terror, the bombings in Indonesia and the Philippines and the trade routes to put pressure on the regional powers to surrender a large chunk of their territorial integrity and their national integrity altogether for the sake of the U.S. and the so called international community.

Pro-U.S. observers are actively working the corridors of the regimes in Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam to ensure the support of the top leadership in allowing the U.S. to patrol (officially if possible) the Malacca Straits and the access route to the China seas, which is where the greater interest of the U.S. lies.

Kuppuswamy wrote bluntly that the 'The anti-American feelings of the people of Malaysia and Indonesia are precluding them from looking at the overall interests of the international community.'

He added that "The Malaysian and Indonesian leadership are using the pretext of impingement of their sovereignty in trying to obstruct the deployment of a U.S force for the security of the strait but there has to be a balance between the security threats and sovereignty."

For the U.S. it is imperative that the Muslim majority states in the region gives away - on a partial basis - their integrity thus challenging their independence in order for Washington to have a long awaiting control of the seas in the region.

Policing the waters of the SEA region is not the finality of the American goals in Asia as it is only one of the many tips of the bigger iceberg that the U.S. is working upon: The total control of the seas from Japan to Australia with the Nuclear base in the Indian Ocean on the occupied Island of Diego Garcia (Mauritius Owned) being used as the major Military control center.

Information obtained by Wfol.tv indicates that Malaysia is well into the radar of the U.S. though Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak was not very well entertained in the USA during his last visit to Washington. Furthermore, State Department undersecretary Kuert Campbell's visti to KL was short-termed without any meeting with Najib who was formerly the long standing Minister of Defense of Malaysia altogether.

With the USA pressing Malaysia on issues of human rights instead of maintaining an open political dialogue with the Malaysian leadership, Washington is trying to penetrate into Malacca Straits thus changing the three countries (littoral states) format of safeguarding Malacca Straits.

Besides being of bad diplomatic taste, the U.S. is showing its clout by shunning the Malaysian leadership on 'regional' defenses and is trying to impose its end game: control South East Asian seas in a bid to consolidate its presence in the Indian Ocean and to capture one of the major trade-military exit routes of China, the South China Seas.

Wfol.tv was the very few first to state that the wars led by the US across the world against Muslims on the name of the war on terror was making the US weaker and destroying its economy. At that time, when we wrote an editorial on this issue, the rest of the world seemed to state that it was not true that the cost of wars were destroying the US economy. How to get international troops out of Afghanistan, and replace them with local forces? That was the crunch issue being discussed at a 70 nation conference on the future of the war-torn country. One plan involves tempting Taliban fighters to leave the insurgency behind, and take up civilian jobs. The plan also includes buying off up to 12,500 members of the Taliban with a promise that they will be paid to defend their own villages.
