WIEF: What New Islamic Economic Model?

The World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) is destined to be another bout of rhetoric speech with more people speaking and less people benefiting. This is the impression given with the proposal that the Muslims get themselves a New Economic Model. The question is what new model do the Muslims need when they failed to apply the true Islamic Model in practice?

The WIEF held at Kuala Lumpur under the theme 'Gearing for Economic Resurgence' suggests that the Muslim nations does not have a successful'economic' model and that their state of affairs are decrepit, at a loss and in need of a new model. The idea of a new model is defeated by the simple fact that the Muslims have failed to implement the 'true' Islamic values, Islamic economic and business values that are inscribed in the Holy Quraan - the holy book of Muslims.

Apply these principles and the solution to the state of morass could be found. Re-invent the entire Islamic model and face more failures in the coming decades. This is the simplistic message that the WIEF promoters and speakers should be told in  order for these people to realize that the Muslim community world wide has in effect adopted more of the Western and non-Islamic values since the days of Independence of their states and they have grown far apart from true islamic values.

This is the sixth World Islamic Economic Forum and nothing concrete has been achieved - less the organizational structure of conferences that spends the cash but generates more criticism across the world's media.

It is time for the Muslims to take heed of the message by the Prophet of Islam that steering away from Islamic values will only cause them to be at a loss. However, the hunt for the money and the greed of nations have brought the Muslim communities across the globe to grow more selfish and to abandon the sense of 'brotherhood' and cooperation among Muslims.

It is high time altogether for the Muslims to learn from the Chinese Community for example and to again take heed of  the message by the Prophet of Islam: Go to China if need be to learn how they do things! he said.

Yes we need to look at the wonderful job done by the Chinese communities world wide to understand the reasoning of the  Prophet of Islam and to see the despair of the Muslims in general.

It is idealistic to propose a new Islamic Economic model as it is altogether impossible to achieve Muslim unity with speeches. As a matter of fact, the hunger of the Muslim children in Gaza or the West Bank and in Somalia, Afghanistan or  Iraq will not end with a new Islamic Economic Model. This will not benefit them because the model, as new as it would be, will be selfish, domineering and will not touch the lives of the poor and needy. or would it?

If it would, then we have to know what are the mechanism the 'capitalist' Muslims are bound to put in place in order to achieve economic justice and equality!
